In the 1920s Coco Chanel launched a line of bold “statement” accessories. This jewelry was unlike anything that had been done before and was a big hit. Following the trend, Elsa Schiaparelli created a line of jewelry inspired by the Dada art movement, with large fake stones on bold bracelets.
Quality costume jewelry sells for top dollar. Designer pieces are often marked (also called signed) and highly sought after. Chanel, Eisenberg, Schiaparelli, Ralph DeRosa, Trifari, Hobe’, Christian Dior, and Weiss are just a few of the vintage jewelry designers collector’s prize.
The maker's mark is a stamp or engraving on the jewelry that identifies the maker or manufacturer of the piece. The maker's mark is typically found on the back of the jewelry piece, either on the clasp, the back of the brooch, or the inside of the bracelet.
